LG Electronics has commercialized a plastic OLED panel for vehicles for the first time in the world.
The company announced on Feb. 6 that it will supply a digital cockpit system based on plastic OLED (P-OLED) for the 2021 model of Cadillac's SUV Escalade.
Cadillac also announced in Los Angeles on Feb. 5 its plans to launch the new Escalade with a P-OLED panel on the global market.
A P-OLED panel is made of plastic instead of glass and its display can be bent flexibly.
The digital cockpit supplied by LG Electronics combines three displays into one. The three are a 38-inch P-OLED dashboard and two infotainment displays. Its resolution is higher than 4K, and its visibility is excellent. It is possible to design the digital cockpit in various forms because it does not need backlights. The display has a wide viewing angle, which makes it much easier for the driver to look at information at a glance.
