The Enel Group’s Brazilian renewable energy subsidiary Enel Green Power has started operations of a 475 megawatt (MW) section of Sao Goncalo solar photovoltaic (PV) plant, which is being described as South America’s “largest” solar PV facility.
Located in Brazil’s northeastern state of Piaui, Enel Group said it has invested 1.4bn Brazilian reals, (around $390m, £299m, €349m) in the construction of the 475MW section and that it would be able to produce more than 1,200 gigawatt hours annually when “fully up and running.”
It will also avoid the emission of over 600,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
